Dive Brief:
- Los Angeles schools Supt. John Deasy fell short of many of the goals he set for himself and the district, but still has support from the community.
- Deasy has his annual evaluation today at a closed-door meeting.
- Last week, Deasy told some officials that he was considering leaving.
Dive Insight:
All of this comes, of course, amid the district's troubled iPad rollout, so it's easy to find criticism of Deasy—but there are bright spots for him, too. Community leaders plan to rally in support of Deasy during the education board meeting. And U.S. Education Secretary Arne Duncan on Monday pointed to the data in Los Angeles schools and said the numbers were encouraging: "L.A. is absolutely going in the right direction."
