Colin Gray, father of Georgia Apalachee High School shooter Colt Gray, was arrested and charged with four counts of involuntary manslaughter, two counts of second degree murder, and eight counts of cruelty to children in connection to the Wednesday attack, according to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.
"He knowingly allowed his son, Colt, to have the weapon," said the GBI in its case updates on Thursday. Colin is accused of allowing his son access to an AR-15-style weapon used in the shooting.
Colt, a 14-year-old student at Apalachee High School in Barrow County Schools, has been charged with four counts of felony murder and is expected to be tried as an adult.
Colin Gray, 54, is the latest parent to be charged in connection with a school mass shooting committed by their child.
In connection with the 2021 mass shooting at Oxford High School in Michigan, the parents of shooter Ethan Crumbley were each found guilty in April on four counts of involuntary manslaughter during separate trials. James and Jennifer Crumbley were the first parents to incur criminal liability for a school shooting committed by their child, and each face 10-15 years in prison.
Earlier this month, the parents of Dimitrios Pagourtzis, who committed a mass shooting in 2018 at Texas’ Sante Fe High School, were found not liable for the actions of their son in a civil case brought against them by a victim's parents. The lawsuit sought to hold the shooter's parents accountable for negligence and wrongful death.
