Dive Brief:
-
The Center on Education Policy (CEP) released its research agenda for a case study on the Common Core, entitled, “What Information Do Policymakers Need?”
- CEP hopes to provide state and local policymakers with strategies for Common Core implementation.
-
Based on research into the needs of policymakers the agenda falls into four categories: case studies of successful implementation, case studies of state and local CCSS outreach strategies, studies of state education agency capacity to lead implementation, and analyses of the impact of federal education requirements on implementation.
Dive Insight:
After all the Common Core debates, it makes sense to actually conduct research and find out what does and doesn’t work when establishing the new standards. The idea that district superintendents, school board members, and state legislators will be implementing the Common Core blindly is scary, but if they could get some ideas on how it has been done successfully — or what not to do — that would be a lot more reassuring.
