Dive Insight:
The data comes from OpenSecrets, a non-partisan campaign finance tracker. Ed Week's site breaks down the giving even more, however, the bigger, more general amounts are good if you just want an overview of where money is going. While unions are typically associated with the left, it is interesting to acknowledge that what the "left" means in terms of education is changing. While Democrats were once seen as the No. 1 supporters of teacher unions, and unions in general, today's "education reformers" — including people like Michelle Rhee and Arne Duncan — seem to be consistently at odds with the unions. While this may change relationships, money still went to the expected parties.
