Dive Insight:
This is not the first initiative the White House has created under the "ConnectED to the Future" initiative. In September, President Barack Obama mingled with 110 district superintendents from across the nation, during which time the administrators joined 1,200 others nationwide who have signed a pledge promising to make their schools "future ready."
The President announced the ConnectED initiative in 2013, explaining that the goal is to see high-speed broadband and wireless in 99% of America's schools by 2017. The plan has garnered the support of 10 private technology companies, which have pledged a total of $2 billion to help upgrade Internet infrastructure within America's schools.
