Dive Brief:
- A California bill that would require all students attending public schools in the state to get vaccinated, has been amended to allow unvaccinated children to attend "multifamily home-schools" or enroll in independent courses at public schools that don't involve time in the classroom.
- The amendment came after pushback last week from families who said the act would deprive them of the right to choose whether or not to vaccinate their child and, in turn, the guarantee that all children are entitled to a basic education.
- Previously the bill only exempted kids in single-family home schools.
Dive Insight:
Lawmakers pushed the authors of the bill to make some changes, but even this newer version is not guaranteed to make it out of committee. More revisions and updates could be coming.
