• The West Mifflin Area School Board voted (7-0) to file a lawsuit against the Pennsylvania Department of Education.
• The district serviced 260 students from neighboring Duquesne City School District, and believes the state owes them reimbursement funds for educating the additional children.  
• As board member Phil Shar told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, "The West Mifflin taxpayer needs relief.”

Dive Insight:

The lawsuit couldn't come at a worse time for Pennsylvania, which already has a tight education budget. The district is known for being underfunded and it is therefore unlikely that the West Mifflin Area School Board would receive any reimbursement funds sans lawsuit.
