- The project, which is part of a partnership between Peterson and pharmaceutical company Mylan Specialty, is beginning a nationwide "draft" for 5- to 18-year-olds with severe allergies. Chosen kids will be featured in a 30-second video where they share advice on how to manage an allergy.
- Peterson says Ready2Go will examine two aspects of allergic reactions: Being prepared by knowing triggers and symptoms, and having access to the necessary injections.
Dive Insight:
The running back was at a Minnesota Vikings' training camp two years ago when he had an acute allergy attack — the event that inspired him to launch this program. He says that he knew what to do and wants to make sure others do, as well.
According to Food Allergy Research & Education, researchers believe up to 15 million Americans suffer from food allergies. The number is particularly high among children, as the organization says 1 in 13 school children, or about two students per classroom, are at risk of a life-threatening anaphylaxis reaction.
Since there is no cure for food allergies, reducing the likelihood of attacks rests solely on education.
