• A new  HuffPost/YouGov poll finds that most people believe educators should be treated with more respect and receive higher salaries. 
• The questionnaire, which is pegged to Teacher Appreciation Week, was answered by 1,000 respondents who said they felt positively about public school teachers in their community. Huffington Post points out that these feelings were consistent regardless of geographic region, age, or income. 
• Almost 60% of respondents rated their local public school teachers as "good" or "excellent," and 52% said they are paid too little. 

Dive Insight:

When asked about the overall, national feelings towards public school teachers 52% said they are underappreciated. Some may even argue 50-60% is not a higher enough percentage of respondents who feel positive about the teachers in their communities, as educators don't just spend a sizeable chunk of the day with kids, but are also making lesson plans and adjustments and tracking and grading when not in the classroom. Teaching is hard and it's easy for many to forget that there's more than just standing in front of a room and spewing information — it's a real craft that takes time to hone and shape.
