MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – September 22, 2026 – Capstone, the nation's leading educational publisher of K-5 children's books, digital solutions, and literacy programs, announces a strategic partnership with Yoto, the award-winning interactive audio platform for kids. The collaboration brings together Capstone's trusted children's books and educational expertise with Yoto's intuitive audio platform to create screen-free, multimodal literacy experiences for educators including classrooms, school libraries, learning centers, and take-home programs.
By pairing print books with matching Yoto audio cards and Yoto Players, the partnership gives students multiple ways to engage with books—reading, listening and following along, rereading, and practicing independently. Capstone and Yoto plan to introduce new bundles to support a range of literacy goals, from foundational reading skills and fluency to vocabulary, comprehension, content knowledge, and reading engagement.
“Capstone and Yoto share a belief that children benefit from engaging, independent ways to explore stories, ideas, and the world around them,” said Laurie Diethelm, President of Capstone. “Yoto’s focus on child-led listening, learning, and play complements Capstone’s commitment to helping children grow as readers. By pairing trusted books with screen-free audio, we can give educators a flexible experience that sparks curiosity while building skills, confidence, and independence. Stairway Decodables is an exciting place to begin, and future bundles will extend the experience to an even broader range of literacy needs.”
The partnership’s first release is the Stairway Decodables Multimodal Literacy Bundle, a carefully selected collection of Capstone decodable print books paired with matching Yoto audio cards and Yoto Players. With educator implementation resources, and optional expansion devices, the bundle is designed to support literacy instruction, intervention, learning centers, take-home reading, and independent practice. Key instructional benefits include:
- Supporting decoding and fluency by connecting modeled reading with a structured phonics progression and corresponding print text
- Using fiction and nonfiction to develop vocabulary and background knowledge
- Helping students progress from audio-supported reading toward greater confidence and independence
- Giving educators a flexible resource for classroom, library, intervention, and take-home use
"Yoto was created to inspire children's imaginations through audio," said Bunmi Familoni, Yoto’s Growth Director, North America. "Whether at home or in the classroom, we’re committed to creating engaging experiences that enrich childhood. Partnering with Capstone allows us to bring the power of audio learning into literacy instruction in a meaningful way. Together, we're helping educators provide engaging, independent reading experiences that build both skills and confidence."
Stairway Decodables is the first release in an ongoing collaboration between Capstone and Yoto. The next planned offering, the Read-to-Me Multimodal Literacy Bundle, will focus on listening comprehension, vocabulary, and knowledge building through high-interest fiction and nonfiction and is scheduled to launch in January 2027.

About Yoto
Yoto is an interactive audio platform designed for screen-free listening that kids control. The company was founded by Ben Drury and Filip Denker, two dads who wanted to create a better way for their children to enjoy audio without needing to use tech built for an adult. Child-first by design, Yoto Players have always been designed for agency without addiction so children could discover, imagine and learn on a device that was built for them.
Since launching on Kickstarter in 2017, Yoto has grown into a global brand loved by families around the world. The launch of the Yoto Player 4th Gen and Yoto Mini 4th Gen in 2026 marked a new chapter in that story: after years of learning from how families actually use their players, from the podcast tune-in every morning, to the last Yoto story at night, the new hardware is faster, tougher and better than ever before, built around the rhythms of real family life.
Yoto has won multiple prestigious awards over the years, including the King’s Award for Enterprise in 2025, the FT1000 Europe's Fastest-Growing Companies list in 2026, a D&AD Pencil for outstanding design, and was named one of TIME magazine's Best Inventions in 2020. The Yoto Mini 4th Gen sits in the Henry Ford Museum of Innovation collection alongside the original iPhone thanks to its IDEA Gold award in 2026.
