Education companies Corwin and Curriculum Associates have signed a partnership agreement that will enable school districts to better support classroom learning by aligning Corwin’s professional learning services with Curriculum Associates’ i-Ready Assessment.
Under the partnership, Corwin can refer its clients to the i-Ready suite of products and services, which provides the data teachers need to target instruction where it’s needed most, and to help teachers and leaders measure the impact they are having on student learning. Likewise, Curriculum Associates can now refer its clients to Corwin’s professional learning consulting services, including Visible Learning+® based on the work of Professor John Hattie, which support educators to implement strategies that have the greatest impact on student achievement.
“Oftentimes classroom teachers are faced with the challenge of knowing how to use assessment data to drive instructional decisions. This is where Corwin’s research-based consulting services can help educators develop the knowledge and skills to interpret results and adjust instruction using the teaching practices that have the highest impact on student learning,” said Michael Soules, President of Corwin. “Conversely, K-12 leaders oftentimes have challenges measuring the impact of professional learning on student achievement. i-Ready can help teachers assess the impact of their instruction prior to and after professional learning, thus making growth in teacher effectiveness visible to both teachers and leaders.”
The newly announced partnership will enable school districts to build cohesive professional learning and assessment programs to support teacher growth.
“We know that continuous feedback cycles are foundational to improving teacher practice and student outcomes. To create such feedback cycles, you need both an evidence-based professional learning program that improves teacher practice and a robust assessment platform to capture evidence of the teacher’s impact on student learning. This is why Corwin’s professional learning consulting services and i-Ready Assessment are a natural complement to one another,” said Dr. Sonja Hollins-Alexander, Associate Vice President of Global Professional Learning at Corwin. “When districts align these two systems, the teacher can receive continuous feedback on how their professional learning is making an impact on student learning. This becomes a self-reinforcing cycle, because seeing is believing: teacher beliefs and mindsets begin to change once they can see for themselves the impact their new practices are having on student learning. That’s how you make professional learning stick, and that’s when school growth becomes sustainable.”
Corwin’s extensive line of professional learning consulting services helps teachers and education leaders improve their professional practices and accelerate student learning. Corwin’s services are based on Professor John Hattie’s 30 years of Visible Learning research--the world’s largest evidence base on what works best to improve learning. The Visible Learning research encompasses more than 1,850 meta-analyses, comprising more than 108,000 studies involving more than 300 million students.
Under the partnership agreement, Hattie will also serve as a technical advisor for i-Ready. The i-Ready suite is aligned to many of Hattie’s identified high-impact practices and empowers educators and students to use evidence to understand where students are in their learning, what progress looks like, and how students can progress with a personalized learning path. With i-Ready, educators can gain deep insight into student growth based on industry-leading assessment and instructional design concepts that are backed by extensive validity evidence.
“We are excited about the opportunity to work directly with Professor Hattie to align the Visible Learning research and our i-Ready program to help teachers tune into the strategies that have the greatest impact on student learning. i-Ready helps teachers truly understand the impact their instruction is having in that moment,” said Rob Waldron, CEO of Curriculum Associates. “Through the partnership with Corwin, we will collectively be able to help more educators use practices to drive student outcomes, while further strengthening i-Ready through Professor Hattie’s expertise.”
About 30% of districts in the U.S. engage with Corwin for professional learning, and more than 1.2 million students have been impacted by Corwin professional learning consulting services since 2012. Corwin delivered more than 2,000 professional learning days in 2022 and publishes more than 90 researched-based and peer-reviewed books by education experts every year.
